St. Mark Lutheran Church
Gather, Grow, and Go Forward in Christ

Outreach

Outreach at St Mark is taking risks to reach outside of our selves to make our beliefs known, and by nurturing our members and bringing God to our community.

Habitat For Humanity
The Wilson Family 2836 Maplewood, Ann Arbor
Rochelle Wilson And Her Daughter Sasha

Those of us who are parents know that nothing makes a family like a child. In some ways my life began July 17, 2004 at 9:28 PM. That is the day and time my daughter Sasha Lynn was born. Now that she is 4 years old and starting kindergarten next school year, I am filled with happiness that she will do the rest of her growing up in a home. Becoming a homeowner is a dream come true, and knowing that the people of my community are volunteering their time to make my dream a reality is truly a blessing. Before 2003 I was busy growing up and finishing my education, 1st in local Ann Arbor schools and laterafter many stops, starts and stalls receiving my degree from The University of Michigan in 1997. I often joke about how I got far without going anywhere. I graduated from Pioneer High School on one end of Stadium Blvd. in 1991 and on the other corner I received my college degree in English Language and Literature. My working life has been in service to my community starting at SAFE House working on behalf of battered women, to Community Mental Health working with young adults and finally at my current position, teaching healthy sexuality education to local students. As someone who has done a lot of volunteering herself, I am that much more grateful to Habitat to Humanity and all its many volunteers. I am humbled and inspired by you. Thank you. -The Wilsons

St. Mark has been invited to participate in this year's build. Blitz week begins Saturday, June 5th. We are honored again to supply the snack and lunch for this day. What a way to get the build kicked off! A sign-up sheet will be posted in Narthex for needed lunch and snack items. If anyone is interested in volunteering at the work site there will be a sign-up sheet for workers too.

I will be selling paper houses (donations only) to provide support to our Habitat family, The Wilsons. You will write your name on the house and we will have them posted around the church. The money collected will be used to purchase a gift certificate to be given to the Wilson family as a gift from the St. Mark family so they can purchase something for their home.

Starting in August we will start collecting "Nickels For Nails" to support Habitat 2011.

I ask everyone to save their nickels and bring them in and place them in the jar. Let us see how many nickels we can collect by June 2011!
